Do all these abbreviations and terminology create more questions than answers and just leave you feeling a confused? We’ve put together this Jargon Buster that will help you to cut through the complexity of those key terms and abbreviations!
Powder Coated
Powder coating is a dry coating process used as a metal finish mostly on industrial equipment. The coating is applied as dry powder through an electrostatic process, then cured with heat. It is well known for providing high-quality finishes in terms of both functionality and overall look.
Active Technology Paint
A synthetic coating that contains chemical properties to prevent bacteria from infecting and reproducing on the surface. This is applied to our products because it reduces the risk of cross-contamination and averts the spread of diseases such as MRSA. It is effective against viruses, fungi and organic air pollutants.
Neostat
A synthetic rubber based sheet of material that covers over MDF core and has a lightly embossed texture to eliminate glare. This worktop is highly resilient to heat, hot solder and flux resistant.
Lamstat
A hard wearing quality worktop with 20mm thick chipboard with a Lamstat 1.8mm thickness. This type of worktop has a chemical resistance to organic solvents, weak acids, alkaline, petrol and oil.
Linoleum
A hard wearing quality worktop with 20mm thick chipboard with a Lamstat 1.8mm thickness. This type of worktop has a chemical resistance to organic solvents, weak acids, alkaline, petrol and oil.
ESD
Electrostatic discharge. This occurs when two surfaces come into contact and create friction with each other. One surface becomes positively charged and the other becomes negatively charged which causes an imbalance.
Static Dissipative
Static-dissipative materials allow electric charges to flow more slowly through the material for greater control. These materials are typically used to prevent discharge to and from human contact.
RCB
Residual current breaker – A device that quickly breaks an electrical circuit.
UDL
Uniform distributed load. Indicates how much weight can be safely stored on a shelf section. Uniform distributed load dictates that products should be stored evenly with no single point handling more load than the remainder of the shelf.
Integral Liquid Tight Sump
A drip containment tray that is built into our cabinets and cupboards, it is designed to catch hazardous chemicals or liquid spills.
CoSHH
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
COSHH is a set of regulations put in place to protect workers from ill-health when working with specific substances and materials.
PPE
Personal Protective Equipment.
Equipment that will protect the user against health or safety risks at work. It can include items such as safety helmets, gloves and eye protection.
